This new Detroit duo took their name from US-Nascar-driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Weird idea? Wait until you hear their music. There’s just a few songs around on two EPs (one ep is only remixes), but every song is a real diamond. First EP “horsepower” will be very, very high in my top ten releases 2010 for sure.

All four tracks take you on a colorful ride into the land of Beach Boys, “Revolver”-era Beatles, some folk, warm vocals that reminds me of Hot Chip and the stoner-hip hop-sound of Beta Band. They even manage to make a decent cover version of “God only knows” by the Beach Boys, which maybe never happened before. The whole EP is just pure, BIG, modern pop-magic with a lot of soul. And now they come back with an excellent remix-ep with 4 new versions by Kaspar Bjorke, Prussia, Deastro and Diego and The Dissidents. Can’t wait for their album in spring 2011! Oh, and people describe their live show like a mix between Pussycat Dolls and the Jumanji movie….?
