There is a flood of average Disco-Edit-producers around, but fortunately there is also this:
Rick Astley – never gonna give you up (Dropout Orchestra dub edit)
There is Slow-Food, but Sweden’s Drop Out Orchestra have finally invented Slow-Disco, which kinda sits between classic old school disco and a heavy BASS-dub-influence. Guys like Andrew Weatherall would be very happy with it.
It’s hard to find out a lot about them, other that their edits/remixes are all over the playlists of many djs i like. They have a brilliant 10 track download-album called “we are dropouts” available on juno, but watch out, the album will be rereleased in january with a new tracklisting.
Disco-gem “future past” is the extremely funky openener on their album. But wait till you hear their dub edit for Rick Astley’S “never gonna give you up”, where they actually got rid of all that cheesy Stock, Aitken & Waterman- eighties sound and send the track into a new land of basslines, dub-effects and more. You also have to check out their version of “my world is empty without you” by Diana Ross. Simply amazing lazy disco. Enjoy and play it loud!
